Throughout the first few chapters of my book,”A Short History of The Girl Next Door”, The main character Matt showed lots of different emotions that revealed what kind of character he is. In the first few chapters, Matt revealed that he was in love with his friend Tabby and was jealous when Liam would get close to her. This reveals that Matt is protective of Tabby and is afraid of losing their friendship.
Matt also cares alot about basketball. Matt is determined to surpass Liam in basketball along with the rest of the basketball team and it is seen when Matt is shooting hoops in his driveway every morning in the exact same pattern. Although, Matt is not doing this simply to impress Tabby, he’s doing it because he loves the sport.
Although I did have some questions on Matts actions. For one, why didn’t Matt act out of jealousy when Liam was talking with Tabby at school? And why is Tabby just wanting to change how she is living now? And most of all, will Matt win Tabby over Liam, despite that he is at a major disadvantage? Guess we will have to keep reading to find out.

    1. You did really well explaining the story very well and I have one question what chapter are you on in the book because all this stuff is happening in just a few chapters. I also think you did good with your grammar but in all together like i said at first you did really well keep up the good word.

    2. I love the way you worded this it draws me into the discussion very quickly. Matt does have a huge disadvantage. This book really grabs the reader's attention your grammar and word choice was really good. I think Matt will win Tabby over Liam. They have been friends their whole life.

When reading this book i found a couple of connections. I found that this book reminds me of the stories and memories people share about friend groups changing in high school. In the beginning of this book the main character Matt sees his childhood best friend Tabby get in the car with some upperclassmen for a ride to school instead of riding the bus with Matt like they usually do. This could be an example of two best friends friendship go south.High School could separate these two best friends or change their lives for the better or worse.

Also some events that seem similar to this is in some cases the best friends sometimes one or both of them could have feelings for each other. In this book Matt expresses his favorite times with Tabby. Matt felt that his best friend could be his crush. Also some people want to ride with upperclassmen to become more popular. This book shows some high school experiences you may come upon or have already crossed.

    1. I feel the same way. Throughout the chapters that we have read so far, I agree that this book has lots of parts to it that relate to things we see in every day life. I especially feel this way when it comes to people that are not brave enough to talk to their crush and I see a lot of this in Matt at the beginning of the book.

    2. I can agree with you on many things. I made some of them same connections in the book when i was reading it and it's true it could bring their friendship to end or something high school is a place where friendship ends over stuff but in overall you did explaining it

  3. When i was reading the book i had questions what were you thinking about as you read? I was thinking about how good is he in basketball who’s the girl he likes and etc. What did the text make you think about? The text is really dark and bold. What did you think was the major purpose or most important idea of this text? I think they did that so we could understand were they came from. What one question would you ask the author if you had a chance? What made him think of mixing basketball and then also some romance together in a book. What was the most important event in this section and why? Well so far I’m only on page 33 and that is chapter 6 and it is just now explaining everything of how they started becoming friends and how he sorta likes hers also how he always practices basketball. What was the important change that took place in the text? When he was playing basketball outside shooting around practicing his free throws. What do you know now that you didn’t before? I didn’t know he had a crush on his best friend and they have been best friends since they were really young like since birth.

    1. There are some things that I agree with in this blog. I can agree to the fact that the major purpose of the first few chapters is the narrator trying to explain the characters backstories. As in most books, the narrator tries to lay out the scene at the beginning of the book so the reader has a better grasp on characters situations.

These last few chapters have definitely left me with more Questions than answers. For starters, what the main purpose for the last few chapters is to inform us of Matt's love for Tabby and how that love came to be. You can tell that this is true because in one of the chapters, Matt's mind goes back in time to when he first fell in love with Tabby. Also because the chapter is literally called,"The Day I Fell In Love With Tabby, part 1". The chapter indicates that Matt is indeed in love with Tabby and that there are more parts to why Matt loves Tabby. As I am reading, I keep thinking about When Matt is going to confess his love to Tabby. As in most stories, the main character almost always ends up getting the one that they love. Besides, Matt doesn't have a choice. If he doesn't confess sooner or later, most likely Branson is going to steal Tabby away from him. However, the most important event in these last few chapters is Matt telling us how his love for Tabby started. This is very important to the plot. Without it, we would have never known about Matt's love for Tabby until after he confesses to Tabby, if he ever confesses at all.

    1. I totally agree these last chapters have all been about how crazy Matt is about Tabby. If Matt does not act quick he's going to lose his crush and a possibility of losing his best friend. The reason i think he has hesitated with telling Tabby is because he doesn't want to lose Tabby of a friend.

The character Matt changed a lot during these 10 chapters. He first just described his best friend Tabby and how thankful he was to have her but that kind of changed. As you read you can tell Matt feels a different he starts to realize his undying love for Tabby. When Matt is asked by Tabby if he thinks Liam a senior likes Tabby, Matt begins to grow envy. He wishes Tabby would just fall in the love with him. Matt thought that Tabby missing an upperclassmen party to trick or treat with Matt and his little brother meant she liked him. His actions throughout the story makes me or the readers question if they both secretly like each other. They also make me question if they tell each other could it possibly ruin the twos closest friendship. The other characters don't really know that Matt has deep love for Tabby. Matt wants things to change. I feel Matt might tell Tabby he likes her and try to get closer with her. Matt has basketball tryouts where he hopes to play varsity because jv is not very good and doesn't get a lot of attention. I think matt wants Tabby to see him on varsity.

    1. I agree with this statement that Matt is envious of Tabby and Liam. I also agree that the reason why Matt is so envious of Tabby and Liam is because of his love for Tabby. However, there is more to why Matt is envious. Matt is also envious because of when he overheard Liam and his friends talking about doing sexual things to Tabby.

As I read I thought that it was crazy how jealous Matt got when he heard the other upperclassmen talking sexualy about Tabby in the basketball lockerroom. Also i thought it was crazy when Tabby hit that guy with a bat for getting in Matt's face. The most important thing that happened this chapter was when Tabby and Matt got into a argument when Tabby saw his “Do List”. It ended up causing a lot of friction in the room. I don't understand why the author made Tabby ask where she was on the list. I thought it was weird that Tabby still couldn't figure out that Matt likes her. When matt explained the candy thing it was so obvious that she wasn’t on the list because she was better than the list. Then when Tabby cools off she continues talking about how her and Liam are kind of official now. I don't understand why Matt won’t just tell Tabby he likes her. I think the author created a lot of suspense when Matt was explaining why Tabby was not on the list. Another question i would like to ask the author Jarod Reck is why pick a senior for Tabby to fall in love with.

A few of my questions follow with yours. It quite confusing when Matt says he loves Tabby and that he obviously can't stand the way Liam and his friends talked about Tabby, but doesn't really do anything to actually try and achieve his goal. I can completely see where some people might get confused by this.

As I read through this section of the story, we see once again that Matt is very insecure when he thinks too much or doesn't know what to do. I knew that Matt was probably going to find a way to make his relationship worse with Tabby but I didn't expect him to throw a tantrum by throwing the do list Tabby gave back to him at the door Tabby was just about to open. Usually, Matt beats himself up after everyone else has already left, however that isn't the case this time, as we all clearly see that Matt unleashed a bit of his anger out right in front of Tabby. As for Tabby's actions and reactions, it is perfectly normal for Tabby to be acting the way she is when Matt throws his tantrum. Unlike Matt and us (the readers), Tabby doesn't know that Matt even has those kinds of feelings for her and just completely overlooks him, which is why Matt's negative reaction leaves Tabby stunned and confused. However I think that from this point forward in the story, Matt and his relationship with Tabby will increase while Tabby's relationship with Liam will decrease and eventually Matt will end up passing by Liam and taking Tabby from him. I find this book very interesting and I can't wait to see how it turns out.

I think he needs to be a little less insecure. We all know he has a huge regard for Tabby. As we read i think Matt will release his love for Tabby. Matt kind of deserved Tabby yelling at him in my opinion. Matt knew he was wrong for that. But I also thought Tabby would have picked up on the “candy comparison”. Matt was basically telling Tabby she was better than every other girl.

  8. As I read through this part of the book I made some connections with this book like when he was talking about how he got into basketball his 7th grade year that same thing happened to me I started playing basketball my 7th grade year. I know i am a little behind but I did also find another connection with it whenever they were playing baseball and he swung at it and the pitcher accidentally threw the ball at the batter's head and they almost started fighting but with me i actually got into a fight with the kid with fight actually hitting each others face. Also it wasn’t an acorn it was an actual ball not a baseball but a ball but I think I’m kinda like Matt we both started basketball the same year in 7th we both practice everyday well he practices more than me but in this point of the book i made a lot of connections with Matt throughout the book and I can make even more connections with him because Matt is a very sporty guy and I’m kinda the same way I like sports and I like to play sports a lot I can stay outside for hours just playing basketball.

I can see where you are coming from. There are probably plenty of others who could probably relate to you if they were to read this book.I am positive that anyone who played basket ball in 7th grade or anyone who started a fight without meaning to would feel the same way you do.

“That was the day I fell in love with Tabby.” I chose this quote because we have been hearing this a lot throughout the story. Especially these last couple chapters. This time i think he is serious. He said this after they were watching a movie and Tabby laid her head on Matts shoulder on the couch. Matt later found out that she fell asleep. This passage is important because this could lead to Matt finally going to tell Tabby he likes her. I also was confused because later in the story he started dating Rebecca Gaskin. I was mostly confused because its like he has gave up all of his hard work trying to get closer to Tabby. Another quote i chose was “I know we’re saying two different things, that her word don't mean the same as mine.” This was said after they said Tabby and Matt said they Love each other after gifts on christmas. This made me think about the situation. If he wants the I love you to mean something he needs to confess his undying love for Tabby. He has waited this whole time, and he’s had so many chances to tell her. He needs to tell her he loves her more than friends.

    1. I can agree a lot with these statements. The fact that Matt fell in love with Tabby and how that love came to be are very important to the story and important to the readers understanding that Matt feels this way about Tabby. If this story were to not have this, the story would be a whole lot more confusing for the readers and the characters.

A connection that I found was about how Matt is trying to fix his relationship with Tabby after throwing a fit right in front of her when she found his "do", list. This reminds me of the times when I would hurt my brother then I would try everything I could to make him stop crying because I knew that if my parents herd him, they would immediately punish me. People that tend to make mistakes are also the ones who try to fix those mistakes or try to prevent them, for most people. Another connection that I can make is Matt in his science class on Thursday, finally realizing that even if he won over Tabby, she would still be wishing that it was with Liam Branson. This relates to how I finally realized that beating up my brother after every time that he mocked me was never going to do me any good, and that he was never going to learn his lesson. This tends to show that sometimes no matter how much you want them, or no matter how hard try to get them, there is always a possibility that you will never achieve that goal, and that you will half to accept it for what it is.
