The main setting of Nyxia by Scott Reintgen is aboard the ship Genesis 11, the ship is floating through space on it's way to the new planet called Eden. This setting effects most of the character in a negative way. The main characters are all pitted against each other in a competition of who gets to go to Eden. This creates a very stressful situation for all of the characters. The main character, Emmett, describes the other competitors, including himself, as black holes, threatening to devour anyone whole at any moment. While tension rises due to the competition, alliances and friendships are also made.

The setting effected the character in Nyxia because it is in outer space. Being in outer space affected the main character because he is far away from home and he cannot go back or change his decision. Being in the future also affects the main character, We don´t know the exact year it just says its past 2036. This affects him because there is a lot of advancements in technology and the world could be much different either better or worse.

The setting of Nyxia is impacting Emmett by changing his moral views and humanity. The story takes place on a space ship in the future. The ship is full of competitors that are in close quarters, so everyone is on edge and are not the nicest with each other sometimes. Emmett is on a space ship away from earth and if he does not win this competition he will go back and be where he was at in life. The setting makes him realize everyday that he can not be kind and friendly to everyone, because they are his competition. The space ship reminds everyone that there is no going back and that they are going to have to change who they are to win. They are going to have to change their morals and they are going to have to be ruthless with each other to become a champion.

Yes, Emmett does change his morals, and there is a lot of fierceness when it comes to competition, but eventually they all find some common ground and bond almost like a family. Also, Emmett says several times "I will go to Eden." just proving how resilient and ruthless he is.

the setting effects the character a lot because it is set in the future in outer space aboard a space ship and it is Emmett and 9 other people for a total of 10 people and being in outer space makes these people cautious about their movement and surrounding and it doesn't help that only 8 out of the 10 people can actually make it into the program so their is always competition.
if i was in this situation i would react the same as anyone would i would be nervous and a little scared.

In the book Nyxia by Scott Reintgen, the setting affects the main characters a lot. The setting on board the Genesis 11 in space where the main character Emmett and 9 other young adults compete with each other to be the 8 people who would be able to go to the planet Eden and mine the element Nyxia, an incredible substance that can do a multitude of things such as transforming into almost anything known to man and can be made into a translator that can have someone across the world speak English. With the chance of winning 50 thousand dollars a month for life and other top-of-the-line benefits, it makes them think of any way possible to win such as making alliances and sometimes going a little to far. When the characters go up against each other, Emmett ended up putting Roathy, one of the young adults whos also competing to go to Eden, in the medic but crushing his trachea. He didn't mean to hurt but to win. With millions of dollars on the line, people will try anything to win and people might get hurt in the process.

in nyxia the setting affects the characters a lot. the book is set in the future and has 10 young adults competing for the eight slots to go to the planet eden and mine nyxia. nyxia is secretly the rarest metal. nyxia can be morphed into a multitude of things but can't be turned into food or drink. the main character Emmett is one of ten young adults. in the story Emmett will make alliances and enemy's and do anything to win and they might take it to far. so far roathy another young adult already got sent to the med bay because of Emmett. and that goes to show what dangers there are ahead.

the setting in the book Nyxia by Scott Reintgen afftects the characters in many different ways. during the book the characters are put through many trials such as the bunny room which is basically a giant treadmeal which has obstacles and animals that block their path, and if a teammate falls and hits the back wall then the speed of the treadmeal goes faster the setting is brutal and filled with competition. the main characters also learn how to control a substance known as nyxia. nyxia is a metal that has the ability to transform into anything you think of in your mind. 10 people have to compete against each other so they can go to an alien planet to mine Nyxia but only 8 of the 10 people can be chosen to go and mine Nyxia and win top of the line medication and procedures and 50,000 dollars a month for life. the 10 people compete against each other to see who will win and who will go home.

The setting of the Nixya, Genesis 11, a spaceship headed to a planet called Eden. There is a substance called Nixya on this planet Eden and these teens are sent to get as much as they can. Although only 8 out of 10 can land on this planet. They will be competing against each other to go mine this substance. Emmett is the main character and he is nervous being put through all this, but he won't back down so easily.

Longwei is a mysterious character who doesn't really talk and is all competition and doesn't try to make friends or work in a team. He probably acts this way because he really wants to win the competition and go to eden and get a lot of nyxia. I think he should try to make friends or alliances at least because you will probably be down and not thinking right and might need a good friend to help you. I think he should try to make at least one friend and start playing with the group and socializing with them when they do it.

I agree that Longwei is a mysterious character since we don't know much about his past as he keeps it to himself, but as the book progresses he does grow closer to the other competitors and becomes more outspoken. He also becomes closer to Emmett. Note: I don't know how far you are in the book, but I've finished, so I tried not to reveal anything.

      Delete
    2. I also agree that Longwei should try to have a alliance with someone instead of Isolating himself and Ignoring his team during the team competitions. I also wonder why he doesn't have a alliance with anyone unlike everyone else who has at least 1 other person they have a alliance with.

      Delete
    3. I think that since Longwei is so distant, it prevents him from leading. This is an advantage to Emmett and I hope Emmett uses it to his advantage. I think Longwei is smart because by not making friends, he is preventing emotional burden when people are lost or when he has to fight them.

The characters whose actions I disagree with most would be Isadora and Roathy. Isadora is very aggressive and protective of Roathy. Roathy on the other hand, seems to be just plain bloodthirsty. They both promised each other that they would go to Eden together, which I think was a wrong idea because it's a promise that isn't guaranteed to be fulfilled. Also, I feel like they could have expanded their little "alliance" to some of the other competitors, since they always acted so cold to them.

I agree that it was an ignorant promise that the two would go to Eden together. At the point of the book I am at Roathy and Isadore are the last two on the scoreboard. This means that unless they change the game and win at everything together they are either both going home or one of them is. There is not a huge chance that they would both make it if they did change the game from how far they lag behind the other competitors. An alliance of two is a good start, but in this competition a bigger alliance would be better. They should have included more people and not made dumb promises to eachother.

One character that I disagree with the actions they make is Longwei. He is distant and does not work well in a team. When Longwei's team is introduced to the simulator he just plunges in and does not wait for the others. There is no time for the team to discuss strategy and his team mates notice that he is not a good sport. Emmett says, "Real nice" "The captain who forgets his team-mates." This shows that Longwei is not good in a team or that he just does not care about the success of the others. That attitude is fine in the individual tests, but this is a group test. Everyone is graded on the success of the whole team, so Longwei not considering his team is dangerous for them all. Longwei is here to win and he has been competing with other people everyday. So when he is in a group he does not know how to work with others. I would suggest that Longwei should start to trust other people and realize that he can depend on others for success.

    2. I agree that Longwei doesnt like to work with other people. It understandable that he is great at alot of the things they have to do and that he was always at the top of the leaderboard, but when it comes to instances such as the rabbit room or mining nyxia, it needs to be done as a team.

I agree that Isador is being unreasonable. There was always a threat of getting hurt on board and it was in a fighting ring that Roathy got hurt. Yes, the Nyxian weapons were not supposed to hurt anyone, but it was not Emmetts fault that he did not stop his fist before it hit Roathy. He was going for the killing blow and did not mean to hit Roathy. Emmmett tried to apologize and generally felt bad about hurting Roathy. Isadore should let Emmett apologize and let Roathy take care of himself. Isadore is getting in the way of Emmett and Roathy making up, she needs to step back and focus on getting points for herself.

    3. I also agree that Isadora Shouldn't be mad at Emmett because it was a accident since the weapon wasn't working as it should of been. Emmett also hadn't indicated any hatred or dislike to roathy before that happened.

I understand that she loves Roathy and doesnt want himt o get hurt, but it doesnt meant that you have to threaten him with a nyxia dagger when he goes to see him. I disagree with Dr. Karpinski for allowing Roathy and Isadora control him. Karpinski Let them control him into trying to get Emmett killed. He is acting this way because he is afraid that they will hurt him even though he has more power over them and can get them in trouble. So I think he should of did something about it instead of being afraid and doing what they wanted.

    1. Yeah I agree because Dr. Karpinski is an adult and shouldn't let kids get to his head and be able to control him but I would understand why he would do that because he gets paid more as well if his contestants make it down to eden. I also think Roathy and Isadora should have gotten a punishment.

      Delete
    2. I think that Dr. Karpinski did it for his own benefit more than for Roathy and Isadora. Dr. Karpinski would benefit if Roathy and/or Isadora win, so to get a good player, that Roathy and Isadora don't like benefits him by making it more likely for Roathy and/or Isadora to win and for them to trust him more. I don't think he was afraid of them, but he's afraid of Defoe.

I disagree with how Isadora is treating Emmett. I understand that Emmett injured Roathy really bad when they fought one on one with each other but that doesn't mean that she should act hostile towards him. They all have a chance to win millions of dollars if they don't get eliminated so people will do whatever it takes to win. Even Defoe said that they might go to the medic at least once while competing so you know that people might get injured along the way. I know that shes in love with Roathy and all and people gets mad when the person they love gets hurt but you got to understand they situation and the environment.

I dont agree with how babel is treating everyone. they are saying that its just a friendly competition but its clearly more. You can tell just from the incident with the wolves. The wolves were actually able to injure them and did indeed scratch one of them. Not only that but when Emmit punched Roathy he was just totally put out of commission. It was also like that from the meeting when he said "you are not allowed to tell this to anyone." He said it in a very threating tone but not only that he was saying "this is our game and we determine what is fair."

during the book Nyxia the main character Emmett gets stabbed in the stomach by a nyxian blade during a training session, he was hurt for almost over a week and was not allowed visitors so Kaya was not able to see Emmett and Emmett wasn't able to see her. after Emmett was discharged from the medical unit he relized that he was behind by a few thousand points so kaya helps Emmett until he is caught up. Emmett and kaya went exploring one night and they found an andrimite on the ship which kills kaya using her own nyxian neclace.

  18. I think the greatest conflict in the story is the introduction of Genesis 12. They did not know that there was another ship of kids and it is unfair to just introduce random people and add more people to the scoreboard and make it harder to get down to Eden. There is conflict between the crew members on each team like when Anton was like suffocating Katsu or something, Emmett had to jump across the boat and force Anton to stop. The relationship between Emmett can be a problem when it comes to competing against the other team. The other team can use dirty tactics and maybe injure the Genesis 11 team too.

I believe the most important conflict is that they are all competing and making enemies rather than competing and forming alliances. This is important to the plot because everyone will want to be better than everyone else and they wont care how they do it. I also think that Babel is trying to make them like this. I don't think they want them to form friendships because not everyone will be able to go on the Nyxia mission, and if some get left behind they wouldn't care because they are all enemies.

I fully agree with you. You can not expect a group of people who have been competing against each other for almost a year miraculously become a great team. They are going to have grudges with each other and not protect each other when the time comes. I get that Babel wants to take the strongest and smartest people to Nyxia, but pinning teenagers against each other is not the way to do it. People work harder when they have someone to encourage them. The contestants that had friends on board worked harder to stay with them and they encouraged each other. Even though they were pinned against each other friendships still formed. Babel failed at isolating everyone and making them inhuman.

The most important conflict is between the main character Emmett and Babel. He knows Babel is up to something and he knows that they want control over the "contestants" but Emmett wants to remain in control of himself. Babel doesn't care about the welfare of the competitors, they only care about winning. I think that if Emmett ignores the conflict with Babel, then he will ultimately be controlled by them. Babel is planning something and I don't think Emmett will like it. Even though the conflict isn't very direct right now, I think it will be later and that it will be very important.

I agree that the conflict between Emmett and Babel is huge. Babel communications is a shady company and I would not put them above trying to control the contestants. How does that company know everything about the contestants lives? How did they pick each contestant? Was it because they were vulnerable in their lives back on Earth? Emmett will need to face this conflict and make sure he is not going to be controlled by Babel.

Yes, the conflict between Emmett and Babel is large, and it definitely takes a toll on Emmett throughout the book, and it definitely does cause more damage than it needs to. Emmett is smart enough, though, that there is really a very little chance he will be controlled by Babel. He is strong and fierce and never gives up. The most important conflict in Nyxia by Scott Reintgen is when Kaya gets killed by the adamite. The obvious reason why it is a huge conflict is she died. She was the person closest to Emmet. He trusted her and she was his friend and partner. After she died Emmet was devastated and blamed himself for her death. He stopped working as hard and was questioning how he was going to make it to Eden without Kaya. Emmett realized that he should fight for Kaya's memory and that she would have wanted him to get to Eden. This conflict made him work harder and have one more thing pushing him to do everything in his power to get to Eden. The other reason this is the biggest conflict is it showed how shady and untrustworthy Babel Communications is. It showed Emmet that he should not trust anyone aboard that ship who works for Babel. They lied about having a adamite on their ship and it killed Kaya. This showed Emmmet that he needs to do everything right and get off that ship before another bad thing happens. This showed Emmet that Babel can not be trusted.

I agree that Kaya's death was a big conflict in the book, but I also believe that there was a bigger conflict. That would be when they merged the two ships, Genesis 11 and Genesis 12 together. This caused a major conflict between the two ships because it wasn't written in their contract and nobody expected it. They also had to fight even harder to win spots on Eden. Not only did this effect Emmett like Kaya's death, but it affected all of the others on the ship(s) as well.

in nyxia I think a very important conflict is when Emmett didn't like or hated the people around him, this is important because if he had not become friends with most people in the book he never would of had an alliance and if he didn't have an alliance he never would of got to know the people he is competing against and he would not get any help from them as they have never known each other.

In the book Nyxia, The main conflict in the story is the competition to get to Eden. Since all ten competitors wanna go down to the alien planet and win millions of dollars, people will end up doing some dirty things to make sure that they win. For example, Isadora and Roathy had their medic try to kill Emmett for payback for what he did to Roathy earlier in the competition and get him out of the running for getting to go to Eden. Everyone there will be trying 100% to make sure that go to Eden and they will be prepared to do whatever it takes.
